The Spirits of Native Children Rise to Transform the World’s Consciousness

When the first news stories
came flooding into our consciousness,
telling of the mass graves of Native children found at
government/church-controlled residential schools
it was as though the universe took a breath
and held it:
stopping humanity in its tracks.

These paintings tell the story of the revelations,
of the purpose of their coming at this time,
and of our ability
to heal ourselves and
transform
the consciousness of our world.

Proceeds from sales of The Children’s Series prints will support the Native American Academy’s Sculpture Garden of Native Science and Learning.

The outcry, denials, grief, disbelief moved like a tsunami,
shattering whatever lay in its path
reaching into the human heart, breaking it open,
telling each of us

we cannot continue living,
distracted, insensitive, desire-driven lives,
numb to the small and great violences
we visit on The Earth, all her forms of life,
ourselves, and one another.

There is a strength and beauty
resting dormant within us.
We have the capacity
to take the poison of the past
and transmute it
into the medicine of a humane future.
